Accommodation

We have blocked rooms at the InterCityHotel in Göttingen.
The InterCityHotel is conveniently located right at the train station. A bus transfer between the hotel and the conference venue will be provided in the morning and in the evening. In addition, there are also two direct bus connections (lines 21 and 23, platform D) that take you from the train station to the MPIDS at Faßberg within 15 minutes.
Please note that changes of the hotel reservation are free of charge only until 1 April 2015.

Travel to Göttingen

Göttingen can easily be reached by train from the Frankfurt Airport (travel time 2 hours) and Hannover Airport (travel time 1 hour). The German high-speed trains are called the InterCityExpress (ICE).

Frankfurt Airport:
There are two train stations at Frankfurt Airport: Long distance station (Fernbahnhof) and regional train station (Regionalbahnhof), respectively. From the long-distance train station, there are direct ICE trains to Göttingen (direction Hamburg or Berlin) running every 2 hours. At the regional train station, take a commuter train to Frankfurt Main Station (runs 3x/hour), from where there is service to Göttingen (ICE trains, direction Hamburg or Berlin) twice an hour. Tickets can be purchased in the train stations at the airport or online prior to your departure. Please note that service to Göttingen discontinues after 9:00 p.m.

Hannover Airport:
There is commuter train service (S-Bahn) to the Hannover main station every 30 min. From Hannover, there are several ICE trains running to Göttingen per hour. Please note that service to Göttingen discontinues after 11:00 p.m.

By train:
Göttingen is connected to major German cities by the InterCityExpress (ICE, German high-speed train). Detailed train schedules can be found at German Railways (Deutsche Bahn).

Travel to and from the Venue

By car:
Leave the freeway A7 (Hannover-Kassel) at the exit Göttingen-Nord and follow the directions for Braunlage (B27). After about 6 km, turn left in the direction of Nikolausberg (signposted). The third road-junction on the left-hand side leads onto the institute’s campus.

By bus:
For those who stay at the InterCityHotel or the MPI guest house, see Accommodation for the best bus connections. The online bus schedules for Göttingen can be found at www.goevb.de. Lines 21, 22 and 23 go up to the MPIDS on Faßberg.

By taxi:
One option is Göttinger-Funk-Taxi-Zentrale, telephone number: 0551-34034. It will cost approximately € 20.00 from the MPIDS to the city center or train station.

Sightseeing

Göttingen is a lively university town. It is also an important place in the history of science, associated with names such as Carl Friedrich Gauß, Johann Peter Dirichlet, Wilhelm Eduard Weber, Hermann Minkowski, Felix Klein, David Hilbert, Max Planck, Ludwig Prandtl, Otto Hahn, Max Born, Werner Heisenberg, Carl Runge. Much more information can be found from the tourist center. In particular, they offer guided tours of the old town, both in English and in German.
